So as I was reflecting on what to write after the conference last week, the week flew by and I forgot to post. Oh well, now you get two weeks combined in one.
Conference week was crazy. On the days leading up to it, I did some things to help get ready, like create the placards/signs for all the panels/events to be placed outside the rooms so people knew what was going on at a specific time. As for the conference itself (Wed 3/11 - Sat 3/14), I was busy nonstop from the time I woke up til the time I went to bed. My daily duty was working registration which sometimes got interesting and also gave me a chance to interact with just about everyone that came to the conference. The nights were filled with showcases of performances of gospel, WEA (Warner/Elektra/Atlantic) /EMI, and of course the Berry Gordy event. Saturday I think, by far, was the craziest day. I did registration in the morning til noon, then went to the independent showcase to help out however I could. I was off to the side of the stage and in charge of getting the next act backstage, collecting mics and making sure the following act and MC got the correct mics. Halfway through the showcase I wanted to collapse and I knew I still had a long way to go, plus the event later on that night. Which leads me to the Berry Gordy tribute. I have to say that it was definitely my favorite part of the whole week. I had a moment with Smokey Robinson (which I won't go into details here, but if you're interested in the story, let me know), heard some amazing performances, especially one from my youth, Shanice, enjoyed hearing all about the incredible history of Motown, and loved the fact that during Mr. Gordy's speech, he turned it all around on Miller London. I thought that was really special.
The following week was rather short due to getting a bit of a break after the conference, but when I got back in I was given a task to sort through and organize all the press releases and artist bios/photos to be filed away for possible future use. There's a lot... it's quite a task.
I guess that's it for now. Til next time.
