Ted Smith-Lorie Line Music-Week 4

Hey All!

Well, I have returned from my first leg of the tour to Florida and absolutely loved having the opportunity to visit Florida! I had a blast running around that great state and enjoying 70's when it was below freezing here in Minnesota! The shows all went well; although, the first one I will admit to having a couple issues that I had to work out throughout the night. However, the remaining four went well and I just had to work on getting all my cues down perfectly. All of the shows were vastly different from each other; from a tiny stage with chairs on the floor to a historic theater with a balcony (this was my favorite aesthetically but not really great for amplified concerts). During this portion of the tour we got to demo a couple microphones and compare them and decide which one works best with our tour. Also, I had some of my personal gear that I just bought and was able to work with on the tour. I purchased an Earthworks reference microphone and was able to use that and Smaart (which I am currently demoing) to tune the PA to every room each night (the tuning of the PA extremely different each night due to the characteristics of each room). Also, I was able to bring my ProTools (MBox2 Pro) rig along with me to record a 2-track board mix of the show each night as a reference to see where I was at with my mixes. All-in-all this first leg was a great opportunity to work out the kinks in the show and demo and utilize some new equipment. Oh, and it was not a bad chance to get a little tan and relax on the beach for the one hour of down time I had all tour. Oh, and can't forget, I got to meet Hoagy Carmichael's son after our last show (the irony of this tidbit is that we play Hoagy's Stardust!).

Until next time!
Ted
