Life moves so fast it's often easy to lose track of things, like weekly bloggings. I'm a couple of weeks behind so bear with me. hmmm. What have I been up to?
I have updated the majority WMG's clintel list, and spent some time seeking out the clients that have been lost in the shuffle, & obtaining their information. Doing this on a personal level has been a great opportunity for me to network & discover new business opportunities & ventures. I have also been dealing with more individuals around the facility, seeing what they do & trying to get my hands dirty.
I have also been involved in more pitches to clients, trying to place particular music into primarily film & television. This week I got a very interesting one: A hispanic tv commercial. Not being completely fluent in espanol, my first task was to translate lyrics & song titles. Then I tried to find the songs that would fit by looking at some of WMG's current artist roster. I find undiscovered gems on a nearly daily basis.
Rilo Kiley's bass-player, Pierre de Reeder, has released his GREAT solo material through WMG, and recorded a podcast in our building. I got to be involved in the live taping & I'm trying to convince them to let me edit the video... Pierre was a genuinely amazing person & a great songwriter.
I also recently went across the street to Warner Brother Records, and have become familiar with the building. I'm really looking forward to upcoming releases from Deftones, Prodigy, Talking Heads, Oasis, Phish, and Rush. We often have parties and organize listening sessions and VIP shows.
There is a part of WMG called ILG (Independent Label Group). This group is a bunch of Indie labels that piggyback on WMG's distribution. A recent addition to ILG is Minneapolis' own Rhymesayers. They were the first ILG label that I began to work with & I'm very proud to be pitching some of my favorite Minneapolis hip hop.
This industry doesn't operate on 9-5 hours. It's important to remember what Craig Rice tought us: "You gotta hustle (as in move fast)." haha
I spend many evenings and weekend hours managing Minneapolis' premier Live-Electronic group, THE HISTRONIC. I don't get much down time & 4 months is going to move fast.
peace all
